September is Sepsis Awareness Month. Every September, healthcare providers, the public, and organizations big and small come together to raise awareness of sepsis, the leading cause of death in U.S. hospitals.

What is Sepsis?

Sepsis is the body’s overwhelming and life-threatening response to infection, which can lead to tissue damage, organ failure, and death. Sepsis is a national health crisis affecting 1.7 million people and taking approximately 270,000 lives every year in the United States. It affects lives in every state across the nation.
